Who are these people, you ask? We’re going to introduce them to you in our series – Can’t Stop Chronicles – to help put a face to the driving force behind our “Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop” motto. Let’s get to know more about Texas native and AdAction’s Assistant Controller, Sarahbeth Adams!
What does a day in the life of an Assistant Controller look like?
I’m one of two AdAction employees who work fully-remote. I start my day by knocking out scheduled tasks first, like reviewing our accounts receivables and collections, and answering requests from our clients and internal team members. I also manage HR, so I’m always working to keep those files up-to-date and answering questions from employees. We’ve been hiring a lot lately, so this part is keeping me busy!
How do you fit in family time?
I have a lot of flexibility working at AdAction. I have a daughter in high school and one in middle school, so some days I’m juggling work with parent duties such as after school pick-ups and appointments. Thankfully, my work schedule doesn’t have to be the typical nine-to-five; I can make it work by starting my days early or occasionally working later in the evenings. I fully utilize AdAction’s flexibility when it comes to having unique blocks of work hours.
What do you like most about working at AdAction?
I really enjoy the flexibility, that’s first and foremost. The other thing would be the people — not just my awesome, immediate team members, but everyone starting from the exec level and down. It’s amazing that Brian [Founder and CEO] and other senior management are so involved with the business, and seeing them work just as hard while being involved with each team member is truly unique. It really makes a difference in your job and quality of work to see everyone working and supporting each other as a team.
What is the most important thing you’ve learned in the past 4.5 years?
Who you work for and who you work with make the biggest difference in your job.
Born and raised in Austin, Texas, Sarahbeth takes full advantage of the expanding city. On the weekends she enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters, with frequent visits to the movies and restaurant hopping to check out Austin’s ever-changing food scene.
What’s your go-to “fun fact” icebreaker about yourself?
I was born on a Friday, the 13th. If you ask me, those days are full of luck!
Favorite flavor of ice cream? Any toppings?
Rocky Road with no toppings…I’m a traditionalist.
Do you have any hidden talents?
I can play the trumpet and piano. I still try to play my keyboard whenever I find time.
What are you currently binge-watching?
My oldest daughter is learning Spanish and she got hooked on telenovelas in her class last year, so we were binge-watching Silvana Sin Lana on Netflix all summer. I figure I can let my kids binge-watch a show if there is actual learning involved.
What movie, TV show, or book universe would you want to live in and why?
One of my favorite family movies is Nanny McPhee, it’s like a Mary Poppins type of story. I loved it and always thought it would be fun to have that sort of magic and help people.
